Running Wild IRL9538. We are racing from the Royal St George in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin. We bought Running Wild in 2015 and over the winter reconditioned the hull, keel, rudder and engine. We’ve also replaced the #1 and kite to a sail package to race against 1/4 tonners and J24’s. Now the real work of the interior and rig starts!!! We race on Thursday nights in Dublin Bay and at select national events. We have a young family and weekends are set aside for local cruising.
Running Wild was previously owned in Co Cork, Howth and Scotland. I started racing dinghies (Mirrors, Laser 2’s and Fireballs) and then moved to keelboats (Scenario Encore – 3/4 tonner, Exclamation – IMX 38, Loose Change – IMX40, Tiamat – Mills 40, Tiamat- Mills 43) and competed in all the major IRE, UK and regional IRC events such as CORK Week, Scottish Series, Commodores Cup, VOLVO Dun Laoghaire Week. The highlight of this was with Tiamat in 2006 when we won the IRC Brit Nationals overall, the IRC French Nationals overall and were runners up in the Commodores Cup. Having encountered a massive array of cruiser racers over that period all my research led to Impalas as the perfect balance of racing and family sailing. Indeed the passion of those in the class is palpable. Our idea is to race with friends and family with the focus on fun and pulling a few good results along the way.
Any Impala sailors coming Dun Laoghaire way please make sure to say hello and perhaps enjoy an Impala chin wag over a pint of Guinness! Fair winds and happy sailing.
Brendan Foley.
PS will post pics once we get racing.
