Four Impalas entered the IRC Small Boat Championships, hosted by the Island Sailing Club last weekend. Racing was abandoned on Saturday in light of a brutal forecast, but that didn’t stop Magic, Imptish and Two Frank battling their way over to Cowes in 40+ knots for the regatta party. Sunday had the opposite problem – not much wind, but the race team managed to squeeze in two races before the wind shut off completely. The event was won by the 1/2 Tonner Chimp, with the Impalas close behind. Polly finished 2nd, with Two Frank 3rd, Imptish 5th and Magic 6th.
Despite the conditions varying from the sublime to the ridiculous, it was great to race with small boats of all descriptions. Let’s have another good turnout for this event next year – and hope for better weather!
